Language
An impotant advantage for volunteers and toerists is that English is the official language in Ghana. The language is widely spoken as a result of the country’s long links with Britain and an unusually high standard of education from the colonial times to the present day. Besides the english there are a total of at least 46 African languages and 76 dialects.

Culture
Freedom of religion is a constitutional right in Ghana. Of the ghanian population is 60% christian and at least 25% muslim. Althought Islam is a minorty religion on national level, in the north it is the predominant faith. But the belief in traditional religions is still very strong. The country is a great religious tolerance. Everywhere you can find traditional festivals and celebrations that you absolutely must make them. The largest is the Ashanti tribe in Ghana. They are known for their handicrafts.

The Ghanaian Kitchen
Ghanaians preferably eat with the hands! There are many chicken and fish dishes. But the real local food are the dough dishes such as fufu or banku, sometimes topped with a peanut sauce. Furthermore, many soups as a main course meal. The cheapest Ghanaian restaurants are called ‘chop bars’. Some restaurants and luxury hotels are also serving European food.
