About Covo

Northern region is grouped among the three poorest regions in Ghana. However it has the largest land mass in the country. Seventy percent of the inhabitants in the northern part of Ghana is considered poor. The majority of them live in the rural areas without basic infrastructure facilities providing clean drinking water, electricity and good shelter. Most of these people engage themselves in farming which is not a secure income source anymore because of the changing climate. In Ghana as a developing country many people live and work without being able to affect their own living standards. People who have had the possibility to get an education or who have a lot of working experience still cannot be sure to get employment in their field or even in other fields.

The members of COVO Northern Ghana, want to move the wheel of development of Northern Ghana through volunteer programs as well as that of developmental projects. Because there are more and more organisations who do not care about the development of the region, only want to earn money of volunteerism. COVO a cooperation between ngo’s who want to enhance sustainable socio-economic development of the people through volunteer activities in Northern Ghana by having common policies and regulatory measures on volunteer programs. COVO is a platform for volunteers and voluntary organisations. On this way, the association can identify and solve the problems that volunteers have in Tamale.
